The Challenge
To contribute to the follow-up and future thematic and geographic programming for Climate Change and Environment actions under the Global Public Goods and Challenges thematic programme which are key strategic Sustainable Development Goals in the context of the EU 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Our work and approach
The intervention “Nexus Regional Dialogue: Fostering Water, Energy and Food (WEF) Security Nexus Dialogue and Multi Sector Investment in Central Asia (CA), Southern African Development Community (SADC), Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC), Niger Basin (NB), Middle East and Northern Africa (MENA)” remains highly relevant and places strong emphasis on building the capacity of stakeholders to understand and work towards institutionalisation of the WEF Nexus approach. While the Global Nexus Secretariat (GNS) has served the target regions well through its global mandate, stakeholders are observed to have seemingly lost interest in inter-regional exchanges, except perhaps where they concern transboundary approaches. The report analyses the reasons and proposes ways forward.

Results and Insights
Main recommendations included proposals on programming future WEF Nexus support at bilateral levels; mandating TWGs for strong support to cross-sectoral coordination in future Nexus programmes; and fostering collaboration with development banks for products using blending of loans to cover both feasibility studies and investment projects with a guarantee instrument.
