The Challenge
Increased understanding of the EUD Nepal of the combined contribution or potential contribution of the 3 interventions towards enhancing the cooperation between local governments and CSOs in the design and implementation of policies related to increasing resilience towards climate change.

Our work and approach
Nepal ranks 149th on the UNDP Human Development Index, with 21.6% living below the poverty line and 28.6% in multidimensional poverty. It is also highly vulnerable to climate change, ranking 4th on the 2017 Global Climate Risk Index. Rural communities, dependent on agriculture and forestry, face increasing natural hazards. Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and Community Based Organizations (CBOs) are crucial for climate resilience but lack necessary skills and knowledge. The 2015 Constitution enhances local governance and CSO participation. The EU launched a Call for Proposals to strengthen CSOs' roles in governance and development, awarding three grants: LIRIC, UTHAN, and ECCSO, that are analysed in the current report.

Results and Insights
Recommendations involved the establishment of a coordination platform with regular meetings to share information, successes, and challenges, aiming to amplify achievements and creating a guide for future initiatives and EU interventions; proposals to create synergies by participating in each other’s activities and expanding interaction visits; ways to support farmers in establishing better market linkages for sustainability and development of a roadmap for CSOs to continue employment creation, training, and activities post-intervention.Last, emphasis was to advised to be placed to local governments to help them replicate the interventions' successes across more CSOs, including ethnic minorities and persons with disabilities, enhancing skills and green practices for employment.
