The Challenge
To contribute to the follow-up and future thematic and geographic programming of “Promoting sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all” and “Achieving sustainable consumption and production, and decent work” which are key strategic Sustainable Development Goals in the context of the EU 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Our work and approach
Achieving Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP) and decent work are key development goals in line with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The Action Document D-38894 “Promoting responsible value chains in the garment sector with a focus on Decent Work and Transparency/Traceability” is part of the larger strategy of the European Commission (EC) of supporting social inclusion and decent work in partner countries along global value chains. Six grants have been awarded under Lot 1 and 2 of the Call for Proposals (CfP) “Strengthening knowledge, awareness, and global advocacy on social and environmental conditions in the cotton and garment value chains” and they have been analysed to identify key lessons learned and recommendations.

Results and Insights
Recommendations at overall grants level focused on incorporation of CfP’s work on EU’s due diligence framework; coordination of Action Documents on thematic and regional priorities and relevant actors; incorporation of perspectives of EU-policy on harmonising certifications and coordination with EU human rights and trade initiatives.
